As a photographer, anytime a family allows you to share in their joy and to document their birth for their hearts forever, it IS a huge honor. Their birth journey is very personal to me for several reasons. One of the reasons was the courage and love they had for their journey. So, when I tell you that I wanted to capture the experience, the strength, the love, the bond, the relationship, the whole journey,.......... I am not exaggerating. A myriad of emotions were flooding my heart as I snapped the shutter. Trying to be so quiet and document this birth as authentic as possible, without using flash or asking people to move into good light. (Who wants bright lights in their face while giving birth. No one needs an external stimulus to distract your mind when your body needs it most.) I did not want my presence to cause an interrupted pause in their journey. I wanted to hold a space around them of love, silenced by respect for the vulnerability and strength it takes to bring another person into this world.
As she labored in the pool, I could feel the pulse of life flowing through her.....then after the birth of her baby girl.....the life became an expression of love between the two of them. Love flowing between the three of them. Man, Woman, and Child- As they held their daughter chest to chest (heart to heart). It was beautiful, It was natural, It was uninterrupted, and it was intentional.
One thing becomes more obvious, every time I watch the video. When the mind, and body are allowed to work in sync beautiful things can happen.
We had such a great time with their "House Divided" engagement session. It took place on the campus of Auburn University where the groom is an alumni. However, the Bride to be was well represented as an University of Alabama Alumni. I am looking forward to capturing their upcoming nuptials. The house may be divided, but it will definitely be warm on the inside. War Eagle and Roll Tide!
East Alabama Mother's Milk Depot is now officially open. With the help of a local family, The Newby's, who lost their daughter at 39 weeks gestation, and Dr Rusty Herring, the owner of Cornerstone Family Chiropractic, it is the second one to open in the state of Alabama. It is located at the Cornerstone Family Chiropractic offices here in Auburn, Alabama.
The clouds were grey and the rain was hitting the pavement, but it did not prevent members of the community from coming out for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Joy and smiles accompanied everyone who was there. The Newby's oldest son cut the ribbon in honor of his sister, Lyddia. We also had our very first donations of money, and BREASTMILK! It was truly a blessing to be in attendance and hear how the Milk Depot came out.
Be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the post to see the special video about "Lyddia's Milk", from her Mother.
Here are a couple of the images from the event. Click on any images to view them in slideshow formation.

This is soooooo good! I have to share!!!
Local Mom's now have a place here in Auburn to drop off breast milk they are willing to donate to critically- ill and premature babies here in Alabama. Come and celebrate on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 4:30pm.
I just love this sweet couple. If you missed it, you can view there images here. Don't forget to leave your comments for the couple!
When I got the call about photographing their wedding, I must say that I was secretly overjoyed. The Groom is a very good friend of my son, and his whole family has essentially become a part of our family. While I had not met the Bride, I was so happy for her because I knew the kind of man the Groom was. So photographing the wedding essentially meant that I would be getting paid to attend the wedding that I would have attended anyway. More importantly, it meant that I was solely responsible for how they would remember their wedding day for years to come; I was responsible for telling their wedding story. How I loved that challenge! Here are some of the images from their outdoor wedding.

I was so honored to be interviewed by the East Alabama Birth Village. So those of you who want to know a little about this Auburn photographer, you can check out my interview here.
While I think newborn portraits are important, I do love documenting the day to day moments. I was already in her home doing an in-home newborn session, so while her Mother was feeding her- I decided to photograph her room and the interaction between the two of them. After she was burped and happy again- I was able to complete the last image that her Mother wanted. A simple image of the baby girl in "1" one month onesie in her mother's rocking chair she had as a little girl. Pure nostalgia! I loved every minute of it. Our day to day real lives are so GOOD- why not treasure the moments our hearts' will crave as well.
.
I photographed this princess when she was less than a week old. On this day, I arrived at the home to find out that she was already 1 (one) month old. It is amazing how much the change in just a couple of weeks. Here are some of may favorite shots from this session.
Sleeping baby girl
I am so excited for this family- Baby number 3 is a girl. Yes, a beautiful baby girl. All I could do is smile when I met her. She was the perfect combination of Mom and Dad. After holding her and getting a really good look, I could even see her Grandmother!
Her older brothers are particularly fond of her- both insisting that she was their baby. We did several sibling poses where they both had a chance to hold her. They were both very eager. I do not think this Cow Girl will have anything to worry about. Her brothers are fulfilling their roles already.
This Princess Cowgirl will be just fine.
I met this wonderful family early in the morning...Actually, it was MOTHER'S Day. That was the only day we could get together. The Mom had been referred to me and had been following my work on social media for sometime. She decided to book me for her maternity/family shoot. I am so glad she did. There was lots of communication between the two of us in regards to her session, and it paid off. The morning was beautiful, the children were beautiful, and most of all this MOMMA was gorgeous. Her images truly reflected their true relationships. I was also hired to photograph her birth at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, and her newborn lifestyle session. So stay tune for those. In the mean time, enjoy these images from this Momma with a "bump".
On this day, this beautiful Momma and I decided to slip away for her maternity pictures. She did not want anything too elaborate, but she did want to remember this time in her life~ being able to look at herself, the "flutters" in her tummy, and ofcourse, the radiant look on her face. I was like, ""Of course, we need pictures!." lol Here are just a few from her mini-session.
I will be offering Summer Photography classes for Moms, Grandmom's, or ANYONE who have a passion for photography. This is for individuals who desire a hands- on approach to learning that is laid back and fun. Click here for more information.
As a Mother of 3, a registered nurse, and a photographer, I am a proud member of the East Alabama Birth Village. It is a great educational resource for women.
On Tuesday, East Alabama Birth Village hosted "Celebrating May: Dessert with Doulas, Nurses, and Mothers." Some of the businesses who are a part of the village offered door prizes, dessert, and coffee. The event was held at The Overall Company, in Opelika, Alabama. The highlight of the event was the comradarie between the mothers in attendance and the business owners of the East Alabama Birth Village. The icing on the cake were the children present, who benefit the most when parents, nurses, doulas, and other members of the healthcare team work together.
I must say the event was a HUGE success, and to top it off, there was a rainbow in the sky.
A special thanks for Ashley Lovell, Owner of Strong Momma Birth Services, LLC for having the foresight to create the East Alabama Birth Village and this event. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Oh My Gosh!! On the afternoon of her senior session, I thought I knew what I wanted to capture. I asked her what she wanted to do, and she said what most high school seniors say, "I don't care" in that sweet, happy go lucky voice. That was way to general of an answer for me, so I asked her the top 3 questions I ask all of my high school seniors, and then it all changed. I found out so much about her during our photo shoot, and with each question, I wanted to create an image as unique as her responses. She knows she is one of a kind (but in a good way), and She does not mind being in her own skin! In other words, She cannot fake it AT ALL, but she can be 1000th percent of who she is authentically, and I LOVE IT!! I believe I captured her true spirit, and did it on a campus that her family truly loves. Here are my favorites from her session. For those of you who do not know her.......I introduce to you, one of the "Garner" girls.
See what I mean. She is going to take the Auburn University by storm.
What is in a name? I would have to say most parents name their children something intentional- something that means something to them. Wouldn't you agree? I usually find out the name when the parents book me to be the newborn photographer, but in this case I did not know. So I have been saying...." Oh, I cannot wait to see baby girl- then I cannot wait to hold baby girl, etc...." When I first heard the name she would be called, I sat still for a few minutes- to allow the words to flow over me. Actually, to allow the meaning of her name to flow over me. She would be called- Aimee- Miah. Aimee means beloved in French. Miah means who Jehovah comforts in Hebrew. So together it means Beloved, whom Jehovah comforts.
So I must tell you, that I wanted at least one of her images to reflect her name. Here are some of my favorites from her session.
"Beloved, whom Jehovah comforts"

Two weeks ago, I took the opportunity to photograph one of my favorite subjects- nature. I love to walk through the woods and searching for nature art. The art I just wiz by when I am driving in my car. These are my quiet moment- My reflective moments. I see things that are barren, and things that are blooming planted in the ground- side by side. It makes me wonder what I would have seen if I had photographed the same thing four or even six months ago. There is so much contrast and beauty in the world. Today, I am finding my peace in the beauty of it all. What things bring you peace?
The weather is finally perfect for this baby girl. She is older- 10 weeks old, but she is still perfect for baby photos. After some patience which is a must for babies who are nursed, we were able to get her into a peaceful place as her older brother played with friends on a playground nearby. This images resonant with me because I think they show what the beginning of new life is all about. All of God's children deserve a peaceful and beautiful life. Here is some of my favorites from her session.
There is nothing like celebrating milestones in our children's life. There are many to celebrate, but none more special at the big "O-N-E" one year old birthday party. The friends, the food, the pink stuff, the blue stuff!!! It is all a blast.
Well, now you can enjoy all of the fun and book Sherina Hill Photography for your birthday photography needs.
Having a baby is one of the most joyful times in our lives. We all pray for healthy babies that wail with the best of them-So happy and surprised to be in a new world. However, things do not always go as planned. The reason can range from health issues, bad weather, and financial circumstances. Whatever the case, You should asked yourself two things: When is the best time for you and your family to be photographed. Your personal family situation and personal preferences matter. Secondly, 10 years from now- what do I want to see in my images, and what do I want to remember from the moments. ( More on what do I want to remember in another blog post.) Let's look at the benefits of both.
Within the first 2 weeks of life: The benefits include a flexible and hopefully sleepy baby. Many of the cute poses you see on the internet come from "flexible" babies. It is very important to photograph your baby during this time if you prefer some of the trendy newborn poses. Family portraits are generally taken at this time. One of the challenges during this time is convincing Moms to be photographed during this time. Depending on their delivery, they may not feel like being photographed.
There are so many instances when the parents decide to wait till 3 or 6 months to have their newborn baby girl or boy photographed. During this time, there is more personality visible in the images. It creates very engaging image. The family portraits can be photographed at this time as well. Of course, Moms feel more like themselves and want to be photographed with their baby.
Lastly, one of the most important thing that must be done is to choose your photographer. Photographers, all of us, have a certain style to our images. None of them are better than anyone else's, we are all individuals and that comes through in our photography. So just make sure when you choose your photographer, that you consider their style. Many of us a booked 6-8 weeks in advance; therefore, whenever you choose your baby photographed, contact your chosen photographer as soon as possible.
Congratulations on your new baby! I have included some images showing baby boys and baby girls at different ages below. More images can be seen in my baby to children gallery.

I was so happy to see this sweet little girl for her milestone portraits. Each year she gets prettier, and her smile gets larger in her images. The first I photographed her as a baby, she was in the lap of her older sibling, now she is standing alone and happy as can be. Here is a couple from her current session and a couple from past years photo sessions. Enjoy!
Sibling children portrait
Beautiful young child with such an innocent expression. Children portraits are priceless memories!
All smiles- This child is a joy to photograph!
Last but not least! Have you ever watched a child blossom before your eyes? I feel like I have!

Joy is too weak to define, the reaction this family had for the new baby girl in the family. We all have been waiting her arrival for months. Just as planned, it was New Year's Eve. The parents really wanted a newborn session in the hospital with all of her siblings present and nothing documents it better than black and white photos. Congratulations to this baby girl for being born to a wonderful family. Her in home session will be posted soon- so be sure to come back to see her vintage generational attire.
"Life" is such a big four letter word. With each year, It becomes more complex, and I try to live it as simple as possible. It is a game I play. Life gets crazy........I decide that I need less, less stuff and less drama. This only gives way to me living in more peace and being fully present. It has become a part of the journey for me.....as I try to live it being fully "present" to those things that matter most.
I created this image early in the summer. There were so many things about it that made me fall in love with it. So I decided to keep it for my personal work and turn it into something meaningful to me. I removed what I did not like....and added more of what I loved about the image. Just as I have done in my life.
Today, as I give thanks for the life that God has given me- I understand life is about appreciating the simple things we take for granted. I pray this image inspires you in some way.
Where do I begin? The very first time I met Ashlee, I knew she was the RIGHT bride for me. The vision she had for her day....I could just feel it. I so wanted to be a part of her special day. I literally fell in love with it and decided that I was going to be her wedding photographer!! lol. Well, actually, SHE decided I was going to be her wedding photographer, and I was thrilled!! WHY? As a friend, wife, sister, wife, Mother, Nurse, and now Professional Photographer- once I have a connection with you it becomes my upmost priority to help execute the vision. It is personal. It is not a mere photo shoot, You are allowing me into your intimate space. When I create an image of you....it is more than a snapshot...it is your soul, it is your heart, your being, your love, and more importantly- it is those that you love the most. So I am HUMBLE every time, I am giving the opportunity to photograph the intimacy, and document the history of a family. I have no desire to be everyone's photographer. Frankly, I would be emotionally exhausted if I tried. To Ashlee and Magnus...Thanks for allowing me to share in your special day. Here is a sneak peek of your love through my eyes.
I just cannot believe how babies just become cuter and cuter as they get older. I guess they become more of who they will truly become.
When I look at this little one....I can already see a young boy. Maybe it is his personality, Maybe it is because he looks so much like his dad...... Whatever the reason, I SEE IT.
Here are my fav images from his session.
This was a very special day last fall for many reasons. Seeing someone you love- marry someone that they love. She was one of my first clients EVER....and it was an honor to capture her beautiful memories and be there for her on her special day. The ceremony was beautiful, and private. JUST PERFECT. I could be more happy for them both. Here is a glimpse into their special day...listen to a very NERVOUS groom talk about his bride on their wedding day.
I am so happy for these two! Any even more happier to share in their journey with them!! Here is their session!
Dee and Jonathon are two very special people surrounded and loved by a wonderful group of people. There wedding was magical, romantic, warm, breezy, full of r and b, and with some CHURCH and fairy-tale experience....ALL COMBINED!! I am not even LYING! You can ask anyone who attended:) I attempted to capture all of this with my HEART and my LENS as my Eyes filled with tears. I pray that their marriage and love continues to grow, and that each time they view this video or their images- that their hearts are transported back to their magical day! God Bless- Sherina
(Feel free to leave WELL-WISHES to the beautiful couple in the comments section.)
What an honor it was to photograph the wedding of Gretchen and Brandon this weekend in Enterprise, Alabama. This couple met at Auburn University 7 years ago and have been an item every since! The Bride looked stunning on her special day, and well I must also say that the Groom was not bad to look at all!!! Here is a sneak peak of their special day.
I swear...I really do have the best clients. I am so glad K called me to capture her family. I am so glad it was raining. I am so glad I love thinking on the fly.( HaHA!! The people who know me KNOW I love to do THIS!!) If it is routine, same 'ol same 'ol...I am bored. Life as it happens is unpredictable, genuine, and unstaged! If you are patient, you will find gold! I promise. Add this to the best clients who allow you to artistically express yourself- then you have a GOLDMINE. Thanks K, L, D, and Sandy Dog for wonderful experience! and for sharing your Gentle Spirit with my camera and heart. God Bless. Click on the slideshow below to see a few from their session.
Capturing milestones are always a joy for me, but especially when Mom is a part of the session. Something special happens every time. Here is a few from a recent 9 month session. To see what I am talking about, click on the slideshow below. Feel free to leave a comment. Enjoy.
Meet this beautiful Woman, Wife, Mother and Soldier and Photographer. She has sacrificed so many precious memories with her family to serve and protect us. So, when asked to photograph her....I was humbled. Of course I would!! Today it was all about her!!! This is a sneak peak from her session. Please leave a comment letting her now how awesome she is!! As women- we should always build each other up:)
Thanks for stopping by!! Sherina
(Blog post inspired by Dr. Seuss quote.)
"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." Dr. Seuss, Happy Birthday to You!!
Meet my Niece! I recently photographed her at the end of my birthday party. You would think that I photograph her a lot because she is my niece. Due to the physical distance between us, this is not the case. I have had a great desire to capture her confidence. Her confidence is beautiful and radiates everywhere she goes. I wish it had not taken me 40 years to exude this type of confidence. At this time in my life, I have learned to embrace the YOUER of who I am. As you will see reflected in her images, My niece has done the same at a very early age. Ask yourself the question- Have you embraced your YOUER of who you are? Feel free to share this post with others.
What a joy it was to spend the day with The Taylor family and photograph the Cooper's 1 year birthday party. The Taylor's really know how to throw a party- JOHN DEERE style with a touch of "Cooper". The cake, party favors, and the food were all made with EXCELLENCE AND LOVE, and both sides of the family are as sweet as WARM APPLE PIE and VANILLA ICE CREAM. This Baby Boy is so BLESSED!! This was a special time to capture birthday and family moments since four generations of the family were present. Because of all of the moments captured, I have decided to create 2 blog posts. This is part one.
We want Grandma and Grandpa Cooper, and Aunt Stacey to know that even though they were unable to make it, their presence was felt.
Shout out to Abbey Baby Kakes. If you are in need of a serious cake for your special event....I highly recommend Abbey Baby Kakes.

Stay tune for the rest of her session.
Watching the LOVE grow between two people makes my heart swell. The only thing sweeter is witnessing a child being born. I feel as though I have lived because I have witnessed BOTH. Here are a few images of two very special people. Auburn University brought them together, and now God will put them together in less than a month. Here is a few images from their very special session in Auburn, Al.
